WaterWatch on a weekend

South West TAFE Diploma of Conservation and Ecosystem Management students took the riverbanks of the Merri estuary and Lake Pertobe complex last weekend with Glenelg Hopkins CMA staff and Merri EstuaryWatch volunteers to learn all about citizen science and hands-on water quality testing.

Students learned about various aspects of the statewide EstuaryWatch citizen science program, along with the dynamics and management of our critically important intermittently closed estuaries.

Students also gained hands on experience, including waterbug sampling, identification techniques, and estuary water quality sampling and testing.

Shout out to EstuaryWatch volunteer Karen Wales who showcased the dedication of our fantastic community volunteers and the important work of the EstuaryWatch program to the students!
