The frog report from October 2024 is now available!
The first Frog Month Victoria took place in October 2024, engaging nearly 300 participants in a statewide effort to monitor frogs through the Frog Census app. The spotlight was on two feature species—the threatened Growling Grass Frog (Litoria raniformis) and the introduced Eastern Dwarf Tree Frog (Litoria fallax) from Queensland and New South Wales. However, participants were encouraged to record any frog calls they heard—or even the absence of calls, contributing valuable absence data. A total of 638 recordings were submitted, including 45 with no detectable frog calls, resulting in 1,183 verified frog records. In total, 12 frog species were recorded: 11 identified through audio and one through a photo submission. Notably, the Growling Grass Frog was recorded in the Melbourne Water and Corangamite CMA regions, while the Eastern Dwarf Tree Frog was detected in the Melbourne Water and North East CMA regions.
