Water almost black colour. Pump at exit of lake was on. Small trickle being released. No blue colour when added starch in oxygen test so not able to perform titration. No coloration in phosphate test. Assume levels too low to show up in test. Outgoing tide. high 6:18 (1.0m), low 12:30pm (0.4m) Made report to EPS about state of creek. Here is the assessment of problem by Bianca Sigismundi. I advised from the description and photo that the problem appeared to be stagnant water. The lack of flow reduces the amount of oxygen present and leads to an increase in anaerobic digestion in the creek and creek bed, usually resulting in black mud that can have a sulphur odour. No flow also results in a build up of general contaminates and scum from what could be a huge number of small sources that feed into the creek and have no way of flowing through and clearing out of the system. Kate said that this part of the creek is just below the lakes of the Golf Links golf course which does not appear to have any flow. The creek is also tidal at its opening.
