Pools rapidly diminishing. The usual pool under the bridge was dried up, so the sample was taken from 1m up, under the blackberry, where this pool was also diminishing rapidly in the summer weather. This pool usually supports some spotted galaxias and a long necked turtle. The concentrated water showed much salt. There had been no rain for 6 weeks, the vegetation was getting very dry, maidenhair ferns were visible wilting.
