"1st sampling date- extra information in Ian's email to Eddie: Eddie, here's my results for Ferny Creek at 36 Dean's Road Upwey 3158, Melways 74 K12, 37deg 54min 59sec South, 145 deg 19min 37sec East by GPS according to Australian 84/86 reference. I'll confirm by reference to DSE's mapping website later. I chose a spot at the back of 34 Dean's Road where I could get into the creek and measure in a shallow run out of a long pool (photos later). The banks are about 1.5 metres high there & steep. The bed is rocky (Ferny Creek black stone as seen in the old Melbourne Museum years ago!) and with some gravel. Creek might be 2-3m wide at the bed, perhaps 4m wide bank to bank at the top. I'll check. I've put some star pickets in the bank with the tops at measured heights above the creek bed and will need to improvise a drop line from a horizontal beam from them when the water gets deeper. At the moment I rely on some weed trees to pull myself out! Clear, slow flow, green slime in shallow parts of creek"
