Observations: description of site - local drainage wetland (south end). Lake drying out. Algae and nutrients appear to be increasing in concentration due to dry / warm weather. Macros - Lots of little animalsin the sample Found 12 different types of macros, such as freshwater snail, water boatman, mayfly, water mite, caddisfly. Most animals were tolerant to pollution. Okay would be the water rating based on using the macros as indicators of river health. Habitat survey - 7-8 rating, OK-Good Trees and grasses growing well on the margins and aquatic plants are also doing well. Lack of runoff in recent months have resulted in increased water clarity. Other instream habitat includes rocks, sedges and overhanging vegetation. The grade 3/4's went to Emily Street for the Water Watch. They got split up into five groups. Mr Bell asked his group "why is there mud over that side and grass over this side?" Teagan Voigt from G4/3 answered the question. "The wind is always blowing to the north bank so the rain is going that way as well, making waves, and the waves eroding the grass and leaving mud."
