Fish Identification and Distribution Mapping Program

When using dip nets to sample macroinvertebrates, a fish or two are often discovered in the sample. This provides the opportunity to find out more about the types and numbers of fish in waterways. North Central Waterwatch has developed an additional fish identification and distribution mapping program to make the most of this opportunity.

North Central Waterwatch Frog Monitoring Program

The program focuses on developing particpant's skills in frog identification and surveying techniques, and North Central Waterwatch will be offering information and training sessions, monitoring equipment and technical support through this program.

  • generate invaluable frog distribution data;

  • increase people’s understanding of the types of frogs that live in the North Central region and their distributions, life cycles and preferred habitats, and

  • raise community awareness of the processes threatening frogs to foster an interest in frog conservation.

    North Central Platypus and Water Rat Education and Monitoring Program

    Platypus and Water Rats are two of the more iconic native species that inhabit our waterways. Both species occupy important roles in a range of aquatic ecosystems and are impacted upon by many river health and water quality issues affecting our region. In response to strong community interest; North Central Waterwatch has developed an education and monitoring program focussed on these two charismatic species
