Training Sessions

The introduction of free, structured training and information sessions for participants of varying levels of experience has been a popular inclusion into the Melbourne Waterwatch program since begining in 2004.

Information sessions have been designed for community groups and individuals interested in learning more about the Melbourne Waterwatch program, and for teachers interested in discovering how the program applies to the CSF II educational guidelines and the VCE curriculum.

Training sessions have been developed for both beginners (2 hour session) and advanced river health monitors (full day session), in order to provide participants with the skills required to help develop an ongoing river health program within their local area with continued assistance from their local coordinator.

Melbourne Waterwatch Advanced training sessions includes five (5) training modules:

  • How to develop a strategic monitoring program
  • Macro-invertebrate sampling methodology and identification
  • Physical-chemical sampling techniques
  • Habitat assessments, and
  • Quality Assurance/Quality Control measures, including OH&S considerations

Water quality accreditation is available in for groups participating in the program. Four levels of accreditation will be provided, based on the group's skills, for each of the Melbourne Waterwatch activities conducted.
