Waterwatch new recruits sampling day

Darebin Creek near Southern Rd Preston - map here. Free training session to become a volunteer Waterwatch monitor on the Darebin creek in a specific pollution hot spot. No previous experience necessary. By monitoring water quality and biological indicators and observing the environment we can learn about the health of waterways and help identify problems. Please wear sturdy, covered shoes, wear long pants, sunscreen and a hat. BYO bottle of water. Bookings essential below, This event is funded by the City of Darebin

Join Merri Creek Management Committee and Friends of Growlers Grasslands to walk along Edgars Creek in Epping North. Bring your kids for environmental art and science activities such as waterbug skin art and plant printing. We’ll look out for birds, frogs and waterbugs and notice the infrastructure that intercepts some pollution from reaching our waterways. We’ll thank 30 Waterwatch volunteers for their long term commitments to the health of Melbourne’s northern waterways and celebrate 25 years of Waterwatch. Light refreshments will be served. World Wetlands Day Walk and Talk in Darebin

Edwardes Lake, Reservoir - see map. Celebrate World Wetland Day with an easy walk and talk on the wonders of wetlands. We will test the water quality, look for frogs and catch waterbugs, while learning about Darebin's urban wetlands and how they contribute to a sustainable future. Families are welcome.
